Asylum?
I wonder if the time has come for the United States to offer political asylum to the Jews of Canada, Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and elsewhere in Europe?
Kenneth Anderson, a law professor at Washington College of Law, American University, Washington DC, and a member of the Hoover Task Force on National Security and Law, blogs on topics related to international laws of war, international law, related human rights topics, international NGOs, and the theory of the just war. (Mostly inactive these days, everything here is first draft and subject to changing my mind.)

I agree. Even getting a serious draft floating around Congress would be a good wake up call to Europe.
Now that is a downright scary question.
Agreed! If nothing else, this would be welcome tonic for my soul - that America still stands for some puny speck of freedom in this messed up world.
And, guess who could buy up some toxic assets while they're at it.
I agree that perhaps it's now time to so grant them asylum. However, we should demand that no more than 50% ever vote for Democrats?
They would be more conservative than average on at least some issues. And they would love America. I don't see a problem.
I like this idea at one level. Yet, arent most European Jews usually of the liberal-leftist political persuasion? If that i sthe case, do we want more people who will oppose our effeorts to win the war againstIslamic terrorism? Do we want more academics, journalists, lawyers, and activists, who will work to destroy everything, our values , our culture, that we Americans hold dear?
BTW, just so y'all know- I am an American Jew, a libertarian to conservative Jew.
A fine example of immature euro-bashing.
I saw the videos of the anti-Israel demonstrations in Los Angeles and New Jersey. I read the blog accounts of what US protestors want to do to the Jews.
Do you think your offer of asylum will be attractive?

FWIW, my grandmother left Russia around the time of the Revolution and thanked her host country, Canada, by joining the Canadian Communist Party.
Do I want my Jewish people to be safe? Damn straight. Will they support Dems when they get here? Sadly, very likely.

So a couple dozen of muslims in L.A. and NJ are representative of broader US opinion. Jews in Marseilles and Paris can't wear the kippah while walking down the street for fear of being stabbed to death in broad daylight. Thousands march in London cheering Hamas and mourning the death of Adolf Hitler. The difference is clear. Most European Jews I know have been organizing their affairs for the last five years ready to turn their back on their homes and head for Israel or America. Not because they hate France or Spain or Italy or the U.K. Not because they never felt at home in Europe, but because Europe refuses to defend them or even publicly acknowledge the dangers which already exist, let alone those hurtling down the mountain.
Nice try defending the indefensible though. Preying on our shame at L.A. and NJ might have been compelling enough to cloud the question, but the reek from Euro-trash Hamas lovers still overpowers any contempt I might have for an Imperfect America.
Who is going to introduce the legislation (that I would heartily endorse)?
Quite apart from the merits, I wonder what the reactions from the various leaderships would be? Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton's first major policy challenge....
(And, by the way, what is M Sorel up to?)
Unfortunately, if the rescued Jews followed their American cousins they would vote 90% Democrat and against the interests of Israel and themselves. I suppose there is a possibility that they would be wiser coming from their recent experiences but I'm not optimistic. Soon enough, we will have to be offering asylum to all Israelis as well and evacuate their weapons.
Have you folks have attended (or viewed the videos of) the anti-Jewish rallies in North America? Liberal-Americans & Canadians crafting & carrying swastikas, news-cameras hungrily broadcasting those images - without so much as a peep of public denunciation from news, multi-culti, or anti-discrimination groups. The police were complicit in protecting the Islamonazis and oppressing the Zionist counter-protestors.
With Obama's pro-Islamist/anti-Jewish era about to dawn, Jews' only asylum from the madness may be Israel. And they also discriminate against orthodox Jewishness. Might you consider Morocco?
Canada? Really?

In the interest of balance, acknowledging incidents of violence against Jews (and, I might add, followers of Islam) in Europe, I might mention that Israelis have recently passed legislation barring ethnic Arab citizens from holding national office in their own "democratic" country, and killed 1300 Palestinians in vengeance for 13 of their own.
There is no generalization that manages to explain human persecution of others, and it's hardly true that any group is free of blame for it. Our immigration policy should be based on individuals, not ideologies, ethnicity or religion. Tired, hungry and huddled masses yearning to breathe free--not one religion over another.

Yes. In America you're allowed to own firearms. It will be far more difficult for the cowards to march armed Jews off to the gas chambers.
, I might mention that Israelis have recently passed legislation barring ethnic Arab citizens from holding national office in their own "democratic" country, and killed 1300 Palestinians in vengeance for 13 of their own.
That is as misleading as it comes. I don't have time to correct all f the errors, but let's remember this. There are current members of the Knesset that are Israeli Arabs. There are Arabs that serve in the Israeli army.
As for the antisemites in the states, well they'll find that Jews are not going to roll over and be led like lambs to the slaughter. Believe me, if there are problems there will be an appropriate response.
And the
How about easing acceptance of all persecuted Christians and other religious minorities in Muslim majority states?
Michael claims ""Jews in Marseilles and Paris can't wear the kippah while walking down the street for fear of being stabbed to death in broad daylight."
So you've descended to telling lies, Michael.
Regarding Jewish voting tendencies, I'm tempted to say (tongue in cheek?) that we should adopt this policy, but only at some point in the future when the situation has gotten so undeniably bad that the take-away lesson is undeniable.
Hoover:
"Michael claims 'Jews in Marseilles and Paris can't wear the kippah while walking down the street for fear of being stabbed to death in broad daylight.'
So you've descended to telling lies, Michael."
I've worn a kippah my entire life in North America without thinking twice. My French relatives, on the other hand, strongly warned me against doing so in Paris. There isn't a high probability of being stabbed, but the state of fear exists. (Ah, but it's all Jewish paranoia!)
kad barma:
"I might mention that Israelis have recently passed legislation barring ethnic Arab citizens from holding national office in their own 'democratic' country"
I'll assume that you're ill-informed rather than a bald-faced liar and set the record straight:
Every Arab citizen of Israel is free to vote and be elected. What recently happened is that two specific parties (Arab-based) were (preliminarily) barred from running in parliamentary elections due to their activities against the state (simplifying). Another party that has been barred in the past is Kach, barred for anti-Arab racism.
As to your statement that Israel "killed 1300 Palestinians in vengeance for 13 of their own," here's a thought experiment: suppose that on the eve of the recent Israeli operation, Hamas had sincerely offered peace, or even just a long-term truce; do you think that would have been rejected by Israel? I doubt you could fill a room with Israelis who would have gone ahead with the military operation in these circumstances. We can safely conclude that the operation (whether wise or not, whether exaggerated or not) was preventative in nature. Your use of the inflammatory word 'vengeance' is thus at the very least misleading.
(As an encore, we can discuss how Arabs themselves seem to agree that one Jewish life is worth at least 100 Arab ones.)
